South Pasadena News and Updates

The South Pasadena Tournament of Roses (SPTOR) Construction Crew is hard at work building “Seas The Day” and Hi-Life Burger has stepped up to support their efforts! Steve Fillingham, SPTOR’s Construction Chair, picked up the first of three lunch donations from Hi-Life Burger last Saturday, September 7, 2024.

“We don’t even need to ask, Nick Tsianos (Hi-Life Co-Owner) just offers. I was in there eating lunch a month ago, and he said, ‘Don’t forget to let us know when you want lunches.’ I said, ‘We were hoping we could count on you for two lunches again this year.’ He said, ‘Make it three if you need it,” said Steve Fillingham, SPTOR Construction Chair.

In-kind donations, such as the lunch support from Hi-Life Burger, are vital for SPTOR’s all-volunteer crew. They provide sustenance and demonstrate the community’s commitment to the team that ensures South Pasadena’s representation in the Rose Parade® each year. The SPTOR Committee invites other local eateries to join Hi-Life Burger in supporting its volunteers. Interested businesses should contact Steve Fillingham at sftballsteve@aol.com to discuss upcoming dates and the expected number of volunteers to feed.

Anyone who wants to contribute to building the float’s core is welcome and training will be provided. Three weekly work days are available:

  • Tuesday nights – 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Thursday nights – 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Saturdays – 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Interested  volunteers should email construction@sptor.org to let the team know when they are able to work.
