South Pasadena News and Updates

As of 11:30 p.m. water service has been restored to the 2000 block of Berkshire Avenue, the 700 block of Valley View Road, and the 2000 block of Alpha Avenue. If you are experiencing any dirty water and/or air in the water that makes it look milky please use the hose bib to flush it out. If you require further assistance please contact the South Pasadena Police Department after hours non-emergency number (626) 403-7297.

This is a reminder that EVERY DROP COUNTS. Do YOUR PART today by following the continued outdoor water restrictions:

  • Limit outdoor watering to 2 days per week.
  • Follow your watering schedule based on your street address. Addresses ending in an even number water on Mondays/Thursdays and addresses ending in an odd number water on Tuesdays/Fridays.
  • Do NOT water between the hours of 9am and 5pm.

The South Pasadena Public Library is hiring! We are looking for friendly and energetic people to join our team as part-time Library Aides. Library Aides work up to 18 hours per week and play a key role in library operations as they assist customers at the service desk and get the thousands of returned books back on the shelves! Salary range is $16.32-$19.52/hour. This is a great entry-level opportunity for anyone interested in public service or libraries. Apply online! Applications will be accepted through September 22nd, or until 75 applications are received, so apply early!

In honor of the Labor Day holiday, City offices will be closed on Monday, September 2, 2024. We will resume services on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.

The South Pasadena Police and Fire Departments will have staff available to assist the public. For non-emergency assistance, you may contact the Police Department at (626) 403-7270, while the Fire Department can be reached at (626) 403-7300.

The Library will be closed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, for an important staff development and training session. The Library will open at 2 p.m. sharp! Many online resources are available 24-7 from any location—visit the Library website for eBooks, eAudiobooks, film streaming, eMagazines, and more!

Have you been hanging on to those old paint cans and dead batteries forever because you know you can’t just throw them away in the trash?? Thank you, good citizen! Now, gather up all your hazardous and electronic waste and head down to the LA County Too Toxic to Trash event happening next door in Alhambra on August 24th. The Drive Thru format allows you to stay in your vehicle while trained staff remove the waste from your trunk for you. Here are a few rules to keep in mind:

  • Carefully secure items in your trunk/pick-up bed. Hazardous waste must be in your trunk/pick-up bed with no other items.
  • Waste should be in a sturdy box, preferably in their original containers. Be prepared to leave containers.
  • No explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials controlled substances, trash, tires, or large appliances (like refrigerators, stoves and washing machines).
  • Sharps disposal will require exiting your vehicle in a designated location to deposit them in a bin.
  • Open to Los Angeles County residents. No business waste accepted.
  • Limit of 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous waste per trip.

City of South Pasadena Mayor Evelyn G. Zneimer invites you to attend the next engagement opportunity for community members to connect with her and learn more about the City’s initiatives and happenings.

On Thursday, August 29, 2024, Mayor Zneimer will host an engagement at the Arroyo Seco Golf Course, located at 1055 Lohman Lane, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The community is encouraged to attend and meet the Mayor, receive updates on the Pocket Parks and Golf Course, and learn about the Streets Program.

Additionally, Mayor Zneimer has established a dedicated email address, askevelyn@southpasadenaca.gov, to facilitate direct communication with the community.
