Los Angeles County will heed Governor Gavin Newsom’s directive issued on June 28, 2020 requiring that all bars, breweries, brew pubs, pubs, wineries and tasting rooms in Los Angeles County close unless they are offering sit-down dine-in meals. This includes closing bar areas in restaurants.  The South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce notified restaurants and bars Sunday evening of the new order. LA County Press Release can be viewed at http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/phcommon/public/media/mediapubhpdetail.cfm?prid=2471.

The City of South Pasadena wants everyone to enjoy the upcoming 4th of July holiday. And, in order to keep the City’s residents and visitors safe, all personal fireworks, even those deemed “Safe and Sane,” are illegal in the City of South Pasadena per Municipal Code Section 14.2.

The use of illegal fireworks can cause injuries to the user and bystanders and causes emotional distress for some people and many pets. Hillside vegetation is dry and the risk of wildland fires is real. Please participate in other activities that won’t impact your neighbors.

If you witness illegal fireworks in your neighborhood please call the South Pasadena Police via 911 or (626)403-7297.

Since Mamma’s Brick Oven Pizza moved down the street, the community has been eager to see what new business would be lured to their old location at 710 Fair Oaks Avenue.  Staff is happy to report that on May 27th, the City received an application from Krispy Kreme Doughnuts to renovate the exterior and interior of the currently vacant building. The renowned SoCal confectioner will soon have a new home in South Pas for selling their pastry goods.  Regardless of how you prefer to spell the round holey treat, we can all appreciate the words of Homer Simpson, “Mmmmm… donuts!”

Free COVID-19 testing is available in Los Angeles County for next day appointments at a variety of sites.

Individuals need to register for a next-day appointment in advance and are encouraged to visit covid19.lacounty.gov/testing for an up-to-date list of sites that have availability.

Individuals are encouraged to call their primary care provider if they are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19. If you do not have insurance and need help connecting with a healthcare provider, dial 2-1-1. Testing capacity within the established health system has improved greatly over the past weeks and months; wherever possible, individuals should receive testing in consultation with their healthcare provider to ensure continuity of care and optimal follow-up.

All physical items checked out from the library are now eligible for auto renewal. This means that if no one else is waiting for the checked-out items, they will be renewed automatically for an additional three weeks. Items may have a maximum of two auto renewals, for a 9 week total check-out period.

Auto renewal gives customers one less thing to worry about during these difficult times, however it is important to be aware of which items were not renewed because they are on hold for another customer; those items must be returned by their original due date. The best way to stay informed about the status of your check-outs is to have a working email address associated with your library account so that you can receive auto renewal notices. Adding or editing your email address is incredibly easy to do by logging into the catalog in web browser or on a mobile device.

Watch our short video tutorial on how to add or update your email address and then visit the Library catalog and log in to add/update your email address today! Parents/guardians/caregivers should also remember to check the accounts of children to ensure notices are being sent to an email address that is regularly checked. Not only will you receive notices about whether items have or have not been renewed, you will also receive due date reminders, and in the near future, hold pick-up notifications.
