Our substitute librarians cover the adult and/or children’s reference desks during some of the 58 hours per week we are open to the public. Substitute librarians may work up to 18 hours per week.

In observance of Presidents Day, all City facilities will be closed on Monday, February 20, 2023. We will resume service Tuesday, February 21, 2023. Both the South Pasadena Police and Fire Departments will have staff available to assist the public. For non-emergency assistance, you may contact the Police Department at (626) 403-7270, while the Fire Department can be reached at (626) 403-7300.

South Pasadena has served as a filming location for many famous features. From Victor Fleming’s Gone with the Wind (1939) to John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978), South Pasadena is entrenched in Hollywood history. In celebration of our cinematic city, the South Pasadena Public Library is hosting a special screening of Paul Powell’s 1920 silent film Pollyanna on Saturday, February 25th, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. in the Library Community Room, located at 1115 El Centro Street, South Pasadena, CA 91030. Pollyanna stars silent screen legend Mary Pickford in the titular role of Pollyanna Whittier, an orphan determined to see the positive in any bad situation. Dean Ghaffari will introduce the film, and Michael D. Mortilla will provide the live piano accompaniment.

Update on the small sinkhole on Orange Grove by the 110 Freeway: This small sinkhole will be repaired approximately in the next 8 hours. Avoid the area if possible until further notice. The City will continue to send updates.

The South Pasadena Police Department is managing traffic around a sinkhole that was reported by Orange Grove and the 110 Freeway. The City is in contact with Caltrans to address the sinkhole. We thank you for understanding, and the City will continue to post updates on this traffic alert.
