South Pasadena News and Updates

Join South Pasadena Sustainability at the South Pasadena Nature Park on November 19 from 10 AM to 11:30 AM. This is a free event hosted by Los Angeles County Public Works. At this FREE workshop, you will learn the basic techniques of backyard composting, worm composting, water-wise gardening, and edible gardening. No reservations are needed. After the workshop, there will be discounted compost bins available for purchase!

This month, the Nature Park Volunteer Day (9 AM – noon) will be occurring on the same day! There will be an opportunity to participate in both events.

Where: Parking and entrance to the park are on 100 block of Pasadena Avenue in South Pasadena, east of York Street Bridge. The workshop will be held in the park on the eastern side near the golf course driving range and the bicycle/pedestrian path.

A federal grant is providing the opportunity to upgrade traffic signals on Fair Oaks Avenue between Columbia Street and Huntington Drive. Concurrent with traffic signal improvements will be opportunities to improve curb ramps, sidewalks, and crosswalks to provide ADA compliance and improve pedestrian safety, median nose reconstruction where needed, and pedestrian detection devices along Fair Oaks Avenue.

Possible Improvements on Fair Oaks Avenue include:

  1. Bulb-out modifications
  2. Median nose modifications
  3. Fiber Optic Connection to the Public Works Office

Provide feedback by attending the November 15, 2022 Mobility and Transportation Infrastructure Commission Meeting (MTIC) at 6:30 PM at the City Council Chambers, located at 1424 Mission Street. You may also visit the MTIC website for additional outreach meetings and surveys.

In honor of the Veteran’s Day holiday, City Hall will be closed on Thursday, November 10th, 2022, and the South Pasadena Library will be closed Friday, November 11th, 2022. We will resume service Monday, November 14th, 2022.

Both the South Pasadena Police and Fire Departments will have staff available to assist the public. For non-emergency assistance, you may contact the Police Department at (626) 403-7270, while the Fire Department can be reached at (626) 403-7300.

The City’s Economic Development team is excited to announce a new program: Virtual Business Office Hours! The program will launch tomorrow morning and will continue in the months to come!

Join us on Zoom every Tuesday at 8:30 AM – 9:00 AM or from 5:00 PM – 5:30 PM to speak to our team about any successes, challenges, resources, and anything else related to your business.

Make a plan to vote! Did you know all of the different ways to vote include by mail, drop-box ballots, and in-person? Starting tomorrow, you may visit one of our voting centers in South Pasadena including the Library Community Room (1115 El Centro Street) and the War Memorial Building (435 Fair Oaks Avenue). There is also a drop-box for your ballot right in front of City Hall (1414 Mission Street).

Please join South Pasadena City Staff and partner Social Services agencies for the 1st Annual Social Services and Social Justice Forum on Wednesday, November 9 at 4pm.

The event will include a brief presentation from each provider and then a tabling session for the community to meet social service providers, ask questions and obtain resources.

The City of South Pasadena, together with Caltrans, will be hosting a community meeting on Thursday, November 3, 2022 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the South Pasadena Masonic Lodge Auditorium, located at 1126 Fair Oaks Ave. All are welcome, and parking is available on Fair Oaks (stairs at main entrance to second floor), and rear parking lot (elevator access to second floor).

Join us to hear updates from the City on SB 381, what the City is currently doing about the properties and our next steps and timelines, and to provide community input. Representatives from the City’s SB 381 Implementation Council Sub-Committee, Caltrans, Senator Portantino and Supervisor Barger’s respective offices have confirmed their attendance. City staff will also be providing an SB 381 update to the City Council preceding this community meeting, at their next regularly scheduled meeting of Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 7 PM in the City Council Chambers and in hybrid format online (agenda to be posted Thursday, October 27: 2022 Council Meetings | South Pasadena, CA (southpasadenaca.gov)
