As of July 11, 2022, there are 60 confirmed cases of people with monkeypox in Los Angeles County. Avoid touching shared fabrics, shared surfaces, and objects to prevent catching the virus. Like the picture above, symptoms include rashes, bumps, blisters, fevers, headaches, muscle aches, and swollen lymph nodes. Symptoms’ onset ranges from 5–21 days.

As of Monday, July 11, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) website estimates the number of 3,710 cases in the county. With the increase of COVID-19 cases, we encourage our community to take recommended safety measures by LACDPH to wear masks when in large crowds and to stay up-to-date on vaccines. The Library is excited to present a screening of Far East Deep South on Friday, July 29th at 7:30 PM in the Library Community Room. The film will be followed by a Q&A with Director Larissa Lam and Producer Baldwin Chiu. The event is free and open to the public. Co-sponsored by the Friends of the South Pasadena Library and the South Pasadena Chinese-American Club.
Far East Deep South is an award-winning documentary about a Chinese-American family’s search for their roots that leads them from California to Mississippi, where they stumble upon stunning family revelations and uncover the racially complex history of the Chinese in the segregated South during the Chinese Exclusion era.

The Library will open late on Wednesday, July 20th, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., so that all Library staff can fully participate in a staff development and strategic planning session. On Wednesday, July 13 at 6:00 p.m., join us for Pirates! Lost at Sea, presented by Talewise.
Set sail with us on a thrilling action-packed adventure about a crew of quirky pirates marooned on a desert island. With mutiny and high-tide looming, they must rescue their salty captain and find a way to repair their ship before all hope is lost … at sea!
Throughout the story, we’ll explore the incredible science behind clouds, physical and chemical changes, air pressure, and more! Volunteers from the audience will help us conduct several hands-on science experiments that ‘ARRR’ sure to amaze you!

The event will take place on the Oxley Street side of Library Park, near the picnic tables. Masks are recommended for ages 2 and up. Bring a blanket to sit on the grass.

The City of South Pasadena Senior Center, in partnership with the Los Angeles County Public Health Department, will host a COVID19 Booster Clinic on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. No appointment is necessary, and a limited number of booster vaccines are available on a first come, first served basis.
To receive a booster vaccination, participants will need to bring proof of age, Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card, and health insurance card, if participant has health insurance. Minors must submit a consent form, which can be found at the LA County Public Health website at: http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/acd/ncorona2019/docs/vaccine/ConsentMinors.pdf

The State of California is experiencing extreme drought. Do your part to save water in the City of South Pasadena! Outdoor watering days have now been limited to 2 days per week.
