As the City begins the transition to Stage 2 watering restrictions, trees will need additional support to ensure they thrive during the drought. Although all South Pasadena residents are limited to two (2) watering days per week, hand watering is allowed by means of a bucket or a hose with a shut-off nozzle. If you have trees in your parkway, you are responsible for watering them!

Branch Out and try these tips to keep your trees healthy while conserving water:

• Water slowly to allow absorption- watering too fast can result in runoff and water waste. DO NOT overwater in anticipation of dry days because soil cannot retain extra water.
• Try utilizing mulch around the roots of your trees to reduce water evaporation, lower garden soil temperature, and limit the growth of weeds.
• Most mature trees need deep watering once or twice a month. Deep watering helps promote deep root growth. If you have a drip irrigation system, you can water any day.

Did you know that there are scams specifically targeting businesses? And, unfortunately, they are often successful; costing the business time and money.

Join the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, August 2, 8:00 am on Zoom. Detective Richard Lee, with the South Pasadena Police Department will join to share some of the more common and newer scams that target businesses. He will also share ways to help keep YOUR business safe!

Join us on August 9 at 7:00 pm for a virtual Community Forum on Coexisting with Wildlife! This virtual forum will consist of the Pasadena Humane Society presenting on wildlife and peafowl interactions. The South Pasadena Police Department will then conduct a presentation on an upcoming ordinance for Council consideration regarding peafowl feeding restriction. The filing period for residents interested in running in the 2022 South Pasadena General Municipal Election will open Monday, July 18, 2022, and close Friday, August 12, 2022. Two City Council seats, one in District 4, and one in District 5, and an At-Large City Treasurer seat, are open for election. If an incumbent whose term expires in 2022 does not file in this period, the filing period is extended to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, for all potential candidates other than the incumbent(s) who declined to file.

Prospective City Council candidates must secure the signatures of 20 to 30 registered voters that reside in the geographical area making up the district from which the candidate is to be elected. Prospective City Treasurer candidates must secure the signature of 20 to 30 registered voters that reside in the City of South Pasadena. Each candidate is required to file a Statement of Economic Interests, disclosing investments and interests in real property at the time the nomination paper is returned for filing. A filing fee of $25.00 will be assessed at the same time of submitting nomination papers. 

Nomination papers and candidate handbooks will be available by appointment only beginning July 18, 2022, in the City Clerk’s Division, at City Hall, 1414 Mission Street, South Pasadena, CA 91030. Election office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and on Friday, August 12, 2022.

The South Pasadena Public Library is currently recruiting for the Fall 2022 Teen Advisory Board. TAB is a small group of teens (grades 8–12) dedicated to helping and improving the Library. Members earn community service hours for each meeting they attend, for time spent assisting with programs, and for helping out at the Library. For more information click here.
