South Pasadena’s trees are suffering from the drought! To help keep your trees alive and healthy, please water them (think about the cost to replace them). Below are some guidelines to help you determine when, where and how much to water:

·    Do water deeply

·    Do water young trees by hands

·    Do save water while saving trees

·    Don’t rely on lawn irrigation to water your trees

If you want a FREE water bag, contact South Pasadena Beautiful. And don’t forget that if you have trees in your parkway, you are responsible for keeping them alive.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has issued a Health Care Worker Vaccination requirement that is effective as of 11:59 pm Thursday, August 12, 2021. Compliance is required by Thursday, September 30, 2021.

The Health Order for Health Care Worker Vaccination requirement is available for viewing along with other resources by visiting Los Angeles County Department of Public Health’s COVID-19 webpage.

Thank you for your continued efforts in protecting the health and well-being of our community.

The U.S. Drought Monitor now reports that 95% of California is experiencing Moderate to Exceptional Drought after two years of low amounts of rain.

Your early efforts to conserve water are vital and can help minimize the drought impacts. Take advantage (and get money back) of the residential and commercial rebates the City offers to reduce water consumption. In addition, the Metropolitan Water District (MWD) has additional rebates on water conservation devices. Rebates span from toilets and washers to native trees and water efficient (drought tolerant) plants.

For more conservation tips, please visit South Pasadena’s Water Conservation webpage!

This fall the South Pasadena Public Library is celebrating nature, sustainability, and reading with its One City One Story (OCOS) citywide reading program. This year’s OCOS theme is “Navigating Nature.” Between September 1st and 10th residents will be able to vote online or in-person for their favorite book from a slate of five titles; the title with the most votes will be our City’s One Story. Nominees include Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake, The Hidden Life of Trees by Peter Wohlleben, Dune by Frank Herbert, Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler, and Salvage the Bones by Jesmyn Ward. The winning title will be announced on September 27th, giving residents plenty of time to read the book before participating in our themed programming in October and early November. Programs include virtual and in-person book discussions, a talk on gardening with native plants and sustainability in South Pasadena, a guided tour of the South Pasadena Community Garden, and more. For the most up-to-date information on OCOS sign-up for Library emails here, or follow the library on Instagram and Facebook.
