Extended Eviction Moratorium

The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to extend the Los Angeles County Temporary Eviction Moratorium through September 30, 2021.

The moratorium, which was first put into effect March 2020, places a Countywide ban on evictions for residential tenants, commercial tenants, and mobilehome space renters.

The updated moratorium extends protection to commercial evictions; prohibits no-fault evictions, evictions for unauthorized occupants, pets, nuisances, or for tenants who reasonably deny entry to a landlord, if related to COVID-19.

Know the Symptoms Testing

It is important to get tested for COVID-19 infection if you develop symptoms, even if you are fully vaccinated. Testing is also recommended for unvaccinated people who have been in close contact with someone who has a confirmed COVID-19 infection or who has had a potential exposure. COVID-19 testing remains widely available across the county.

Testing is an important tool to prevent COVID-19 outbreaks, however testing alone will not stop the spread of COVID-19. Identifying cases early provides an opportunity to contain outbreaks before they spread using contact tracing, isolation and quarantine directives, workplace mitigation strategies, targeted vaccination strategies, and alignment of appropriate resources. This includes County mobile teams and community health workers to get in quickly to reduce any chances that outbreaks will spread.

For more information on testing visit covid19.lacounty.gov/tesing.

South Pasadena Beautiful, a local environmental non-profit organization, held the Golden Arrows recognition awards in May 2021. The awards are presented annually by South Pasadena Beautiful to residents and businesses who do an outstanding job of planning and maintaining their properties. This year, SPB primarily looked for DIY gardens: ones in which the homeowner had not used professional landscaping services to design and/or work the garden. Below are some of our favorites – visit www.southpasbeautiful.org/goldenarrows for the full list.

Wade Utsunomiya’s rock and cactus garden at 2006 Stratford includes water retention features and a zen type garden hidden from the front upon first look and only fully viewable from the center of the garden and the front porch.

Drought tolerant plantings welcome tenants and visitors to the Oxley Building at 1510 Oxley (property owners Ty Vanderford and Rodolfo Ruiz) with the low maintenance desert garden that complements the color scheme of the 1961 building and includes a variety of colorful cacti, succulents and Kangaroo Paw.

Sunita Borgohain’s spends many hours a week planning, adding and subtracting, always with an eye towards being water-wise and environmentally friendly at her garden at 312 Camino Verde. Once you round the bend to her house, the colors pull you in!

Remember, many water efficient plants and native trees qualify for a rebate! Visit www.southpasadenaca.gov/rebates for more details.

South Pasadena Public Works has partnered with the Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District to install several water bottle fill stations at City facilities in an effort to reduce plastic waste. Two stations can be found at City Hall and two more at the Library. The stations allow hands-free filling of bottles and include a tracker that counts the number of plastic bottles diverted from landfill. City staff are working hard to get even more installed later this year. The installation of the water bottle fill stations completes another Move from the City’s Green Action Plan getting us a little closer to making South Pasadena a plastic-free City.
